Last weekend I visited a dairy goat farm with my friend April with the intention of bringing home a Nubian goat. But when I saw the Toggenburgs I fell in love with them. The biggest, a nearly month-old buckling, was due to be sold for slaughter. He went home with me instead. We've never bottle raised a kid before, and having "Toby" around is an experience. He's very joyful, and is literally into everything. He keeps us all very busy, and very amused. He specializes in getting into trouble, but it's all innocent fun which is why I thought "New Soul" was an appropriate musical selection for his debut video. "Toby" represents our foray into dairy goats. We hope to eventually add a few does, although he'll be simply a companion to them since he is due to be castrated in another month or so. Eventually we plan to teach him to work as both a harness goat and a pack goat. But for now he's just a kid learning his way.

Toby is so cute! he reminds me of my toggenburg, Bobby!
You can. But I’ve found this year that the very best bottle/nipple combination are the Pritchard teat available through Premier Sheep supply. You can get bottles to go with them or you can just screw the nipple onto a pop bottle.
can you feed a kid goat with a normal babys bottle
how lovely!
I had a recorded grade who was tog and nubian buckling wether who looked just like your toby!
I currently have just bought a little doeling recorded grade. she is also a nubian and tog cross. shes so sweet!
We’d like to teach Toby to pack when he’s a bit bigger. He sure has the disposition for it.
As for living in the country, I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
This may be the cutest video ever. Please keep us updated on Toby.
I think any breeder who ends up with too many males ends up sending some to slaughter. I don’t think people “hate” boers. Boers end up going to slaughter because they are meat goats. But I know quite a few people who keep boer wethers as pets. Their large size makes them good cart goats, and the female boars are actually good dairy goats. One of the vendors at our market sells soap made from boer milk.
who slaughters toggenburgs? kil boers every one hates boers
I used to have a togennburgh when I was a child, this video brought back so many memories, I teared up a little! : )
I paid to go “pack goating” last week with my friends and their kids. Everyone had a great time! It reminded me of your video. Makes me want to move to the country.
maybe you can make a video of him going thouth the obstacle course.and make another one while he is working as a pack and harness goat.
Thanks! He is very sweet and highly entertaining. We are completely attached to him and are looking forward to training him as a pack and harness goat when he’s grown. He’s very smart and has already learned to navigate the increasingly elaborate obstacle course our daughter has built for him.
