Is is just me or are kids learning less and less as the years go by?
I don't know I think that kids now and days are taught to think that pop cultural is more important then the way the government works. Or that learning texting slang in more important then expanding your personal vocabulary. I should know, I am a jr. in high school, I take all honors, and still sit in a class filled with dumb-a**es

No. It's just you.
The kids I see today are smarter than the kids from 20 years ago at the same age. Remember something...in high school, you are learning how to communicate effectively and the standard three R's. You won't put that stuff to good use until college where you will learn critical thinking. Those "dumb-a$ $ es" you mention are picking it up too. They just aren't as focused on what they view as boring material.
I see kids in urban school districts with a Mac in one hand, a desktop in the other, head phones on, and chatting up their friends...and their work is still ok to moderate. I promise you, they are sharp...just teenagers.

its the TV blame the media lol.. maybe coz alota kids look up to music artists and celebrities and dey follow dem and wut do we see on videos..? we see rappers degrading women n dey talk about such things dat dont happen in reality…kids r tricked into it n dey start to think dats the way to live life…
well …..this is…coming from AP student…..lol….;D
i guess it depends on location……i mean, i went to like…5 diff skools, and in most of them, kids learn less and less even though the education is getting better and better with each passing generation…..in my current school, everyone is focused more on education than …other things…but hey, they still luv pop-culture….but they balance it out……so, i guess its not everywhere….just certain areas….maybe?…………..
lols on a side note….maybe u feel like ur “sitting in a class filled with dumb-aes” because ur the smart one there…..maybe they honestly don’t understand the concepts….lols im just trying to be on both sides…..
i know what your talking about,…….you think its bad in jr high, just wait till you get to high school lol
i think it has to do with the teachers not wanting to teach, most teachers i seen act more like babysitters than teachers……..maybe cause there not getting paid enough?
it can also be because of that stupid law that requres ever kid to learn the same thing, which makes work more and more boring,(i dont see how biology and calculus is going to help me out if i want to go into music) lol alot of kids have that attitude because the work is just boring and pointless
Because the parents won’t back the teachers up and make their kids do their homework.
I don’t think they’re learning less. I think there is just less of a focus on the importance of education. A lot of schools don’t get the funding that they need, and some kids don’t bother to utilize their potential.
Personally I can tell by reading some of the questions on Yahoo! answers. Complete run on sentences with terrible spelling and grammar. Sometimes I can’t even read the question. I grew up in the eighties/nineties before there was texting and the internet wasn’t as popular as it is now, so there wasn’t really any shorthand or trendy misspelling. That stuff didn’t become cool until recently. So I don’t know. I think the advances in technology and media have definitely made a big difference, especially since kids can just go online to learn something instead of going to the library and flipping through book after book. (Like I did in the olden days…ha ha) I think some kids don’t feel like they have to work as hard because everything is laid out for them.
