Do you think a kid or adult with a Learning Disability is not normal?
I have been told that all my life that I am not normal because of my LD. Why do you think society
discriminates against us? I was told by a psychiatrist
when I was 7 that I was not normal and never amount to
anything. I started to believe it after hearing it for 20 years.

A person with a learning disability has a normal to above normal intelligence. What makes them have a learning disability is the fact that they learn differently. If the person learns to cope with their disability, they can lead a normal life.
I have a 5 yr old child that has Down syndrome – I hate when even supposedly educated people refer to her as not normal or just say something like about “normal” people when they are asking me to compare her – she is NORMAL just learns in a different way. I love my child and wouldn’t want her any other way!!
question to all answers. what is normal? nobody is perfect. who ever says your not normal just say who is? yes we are all different but comon we are all human.
That psychiatrist was worthless. If this moron had pulled his head out of his *ss for any duration of time he would have realized that Albert Einstein, the greatest mind of the 20 century, also had a learning disability. Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy all had a learning disability but they still managed to accomplish more than what most ‘normal’ people do.
So are we ‘normal’? We are no less ‘normal’ than anyone else.
The reason why we are discriminated against is simply because morons, like this psychiatrist, are insecure about who they are and they are afraid that we will become something that they ‘should have been’; a success. Therefore, they try to keep us down to make themselves feel better about themselves.
Here is the thing, anybody has a propensity towards something. Anyone you know, walking out of a psychiatrist office will get some sort of diagnoses. The truth is there is no normal.
With many learning disabilities, the brain is wired differently including giftedness. There are alot of positives with any learning disability, focus on your strengths.
As far as never amounting to anything, that is bogus.
Also, most of the people Michael mentioned have been speculated to have been autistic, Einstein, Kennedy, Jefferson, that list is endless.
i have learning disability too. Every one calls me brick because apparently i’m dumb as a brick. I hate it and cry about it all the time. I am normal and smart. I just learn in a different way. People shouldn’t be hating for my learning Style. Their the stupid ones. I’m sick of it to and as a high school student I feel like the school doesn’t do anything to stop the discrimination. Hang in there. You are normal and smart, don’t let anyone ever tell you otherwise. I feel your pain.
No, I don’t think people with learning disabilities are abnormal. They are as normal as the rest of us.
I dislike using the word “normal” for people who don’t have disabilities, but I know that some people use the word out of lack of a better word or without thinking.
Never let anyone tell you you can’t amount to anything. You can be successful and achieve a lot in your life if you set your mind to it and work hard at it. Believe in yourself and don’t let other people’s ignorant attitudes discourage you.
